Our customers frequently ask us what tolerances should be used in regard to length of a harness assembly. There are some instances where a custom tolerance may need to be considered in order to meet a particular form, fit, and function for an assembly. However, in the vast majority of cases, our customers find the IPC-A-620 standard for wire length tolerances to be adequate to meet their needs.

Please reference the table below when trying to determine what tolerances should be specified on your harness assembly drawing, per the IPC standard.

Additionally, another acceptable method for addressing tolerances in your drawing Notes is to simply include language similar to this example: “IPC-A-620 tolerances should be applied to all dimensions unless otherwise noted.”
